What are CMI and ILM management qualifications?
CMI qualifications are awarded by the Chartered Management Institute, the only body in the UK and Ireland with a royal charter for management and leadership. How are CMI and ILM qualifications assessed?

Are management qualifications equivalent to a degree?
CMI and ILM Level 5 qualifications sit at the same RQF level as a Foundation Degree or HND — they are Level 5 qualifications, not a full bachelor's degree (which is Level 6). A CMI Level 7 qualification sits at postgraduate level, broadly equivalent to a taught Master's degree module, and some CMI Level 7 completers use it to access an MBA top-up at a UK university.

How long do management qualifications take to complete?
Duration varies by qualification type and level. CMI Level 3 Awards take as little as two to three months part-time. CMI Level 3 Certificates and Diplomas typically take six to twelve months. Level 5 Certificates take six to nine months; Level 5 Diplomas take twelve to eighteen months. Level 7 qualifications typically take twelve to twenty-four months for motivated part-time learners working alongside a senior management role.
The pace is largely self-determined. Unlike degree programmes with fixed term structures, CMI and ILM online qualifications allow you to submit assignments when you are ready. Learners who can dedicate four to six hours per week typically complete on or ahead of the indicative timescales above.
