Functional Skills Level 2 in English and in Maths are widely accepted by UK universities, nursing degree programmes, teacher training providers, apprenticeship frameworks, and employers in the public sector as equivalent to GCSE grade 4 (C) in each subject. What you'll need

Entry requirements

You need to be aged 18 or over to enrol. No formal qualifications are required to enrol. The Functional Skills Level 2 bundle is for learners who have not yet achieved GCSE grade 4 (C) in English and/or Maths, or who need a current, formally certificated qualification for a specific application. Prior learning at Level 1 or equivalent is helpful but not required.

A reasonable working knowledge of written English and basic numeracy. You should be comfortable reading and writing short texts, and handling whole numbers, fractions, percentages, and simple data. If you are not yet at this level, we recommend starting with our individual Level 1 courses before progressing to Level 2.

A reliable internet connection, a computer or tablet, and basic word-processing skills for online learning. For the exams, you will need to travel to an Ofqual-approved centre on the date(s) you book, we will provide a centre locator and booking guidance when you are ready to sit.

Assessment

How you're assessed

Both qualifications are assessed by externally set and marked exams sat online from home with TQUK remote invigilation. The English qualification includes a reading and writing exam, plus an on-demand speaking, listening and communicating assessment conducted online with your tutor. The Maths qualification is a single on-screen exam with calculator and non-calculator sections. Exam dates are flexible, you choose when you are ready to sit.

Online study materials, mock papers, and practice tests are provided throughout your course. Your tutor provides feedback on practice work within 2 working days. You decide when you are ready to book your exam, there is no fixed exam window. Most learners sit both exams within 6 to 12 months of starting.

Results are reported as Pass or Fail. If you do not pass on the first sitting, you can resit, additional resit fees apply. Certificates are issued by TQUK and carry the Ofqual regulated qualification mark. Both qualifications appear separately on your certificate transcript.
